What are our options for heating & cooling our new home?

We are building a new home, it will be in the country & we aren't sure how to heat it. Propane will be really expensive & I don't really want an outdoor woodburner. I would like to be as energy efficient as possible but we don't know our options or even where to begin. Thanks for any help.
