From what you've said I would tend to think he is right. The whole picture you gave us is that your friend definitely added your brother as a friend and sent threatening messages to him even though she never met him, but because she is your friend and you don't like your brother you want to believe he provoked it. I'm glad your mother is a better judge of situations than you are.
