Is it worth having Fundoplication surgery?

I have suffered for years with a hiatal hernia but don't want to take PPI drugs the rest of my life because of the bacterial overgrowth and malabsorption of nutrients they cause. On the other hand I've read after fundoplication you can't belch or vomit. Scary proposition if you eat a bad piece of fish. What's worse? Drugs for life or sugery?
